Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila has condemned the remarks of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy on the women from the capital region in Amaravati.
Ms. Sharmila attended a party meeting of the Annamayya district unit at Rayachoti. Addressing the media, she said Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy’s remarks equating women to demons and devils are highly objectionable.
“The YSRCP and its leaders, instead of apologising for their wrongdoings, are repeatedly committing the same mistakes. Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy’s son had earlier targeted me. YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should respond to such remarks made by his party leaders,” she said.
“If Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister (herself) does not get respect from the YSRCP leaders, how can they respect other women?” she asked.
Responding to a section of the Congress leaders opposing her style of functioning, Ms. Sharmila said, “Some people are trying to bring down the party. Some leaders are resorting to anti-party activities. The party’s disciplinary committee will take action against them. We will not stay calm if some people malign the image of the party,” she said.
Later, addressing the party meeting, Ms. Sharmila said that the Congress was the only alternative to the NDA government in the State and at the Centre. “While the TDP and Jana Sena Party are directly in alliance with the BJP, the YSRCP has entered into an indirect alliance with the BJP,” she alleged.
Ms. Sharmila equated Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s governance to ‘3-D Governance’, saying that Mr. Naidu would make false assurances throughout his five-year term.
