NEW DELHI: Seemanth Kumar Singh was appointed as the new commissioner of Bengaluru after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took action against top police officials following a stampede that claimed eleven lives at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s victory celebrations.On the day earlier, Siddaramaiah suspended Additional Director General and Commissioner of Police B Dayananda along with several other police officers, effective immediately, in response to the stampede incident. The decision was made following revelations of irresponsible and careless behavior on the part of RCB’s representatives, event managers, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The suspension included C Balakrishna, ACP Vikash Kumar Vikash, Inspector General and Additional Commissioner of Police, and Shekar H Tekkannavar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, all from the West Bengaluru City division; and A K Girish from the Cubbon Park Police Station. Speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister stated that he had instructed the Director General of Police and the Inspector General of Police to immediately apprehend the representatives of RCB, DNA event managers, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association in connection with the stampede incident. A police charge has also been filed, indicating negligence on their part.
