Quenten Sampson Suspended for Illegal Bowling Action Following Loughborough University Analysis
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – Prime News Network – Guyana Rainforest Rangers fast bowler Quenten Sampson was reported for a suspect bowling action during Match 5 of the West Indies Breakout League against the Jamaica Titans at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad on Tuesday, April 29.
Following standard protocol, video footage of Sampson’s performance, alongside a written report, was submitted to Cricket West Indies (CWI) for review. The materials were forwarded to Loughborough University for an in-depth Opinion Report to assess the legality of his bowling action.
On Friday, May 2, CWI officially announced that Loughborough University’s Independent Assessor deemed Sampson’s bowling action illegal. Consequently, he has been immediately suspended from bowling in all West Indies international and regional matches.
The analysis revealed that Sampson exceeded the permissible elbow extension limits outlined in International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations. This ruling extends globally, barring him from participating in domestic leagues worldwide until cleared.
Sampson will now work under the supervision of the Guyana Cricket Board to rectify his bowling action. He may apply for reassessment through a new Opinion Report from Loughborough University or another accredited testing facility once modifications are made.
