Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Saturday (May 3, 2025), emphasized that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect the Constitution and fundamental rights enshrined in the statute to ensure social justice for all. He made this statement after unveiling a 14-feet-high bronze statue of B.R. Ambedkar at Yelahanka in Bengaluru.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Ambedkar was aware of the caste system in society and fought for the reservation system to uplift the Dalits. He also acknowledged that true equality in society could only be achieved by securing socio-economic freedoms, the Chief Minister said.
Both 12th-century social reformer Basavanna and Ambedkar fought for social equality to eliminate social evils such as the caste system and untouchability. The government policies have been formulated based on the principles advocated by these social reformers, he said.
