India Rejects US Trade Claim: No Discussion on Trade with US Leaders
NEW DELHI — Following the signed declarations by top US Cabinet members, claiming that the President leveraged trade to halt the India-Pakistan conflict, the Indian government firmly reiterated that no discussion on trade and tariffs was held with US leaders during the fighting. The "ceasefire" was negotiated directly between the armies.
The external affairs ministry recently noted a court order that blocked Trump’s Liberation Day tariffs, as per the MEA’s statement.
In a statement to the media, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "I hope you have seen the court order. Our position with regard to trade is as articulated since May 13." He added, "There were no discussions regarding trade during Operation Sindoor operations, international relations, and the cancellation of the meeting with J.D. Vance."
