Mr. Shah directed the Ministry of Jal Shakti to develop a Standard Operating Procedure for all Sewage Treatment Plants and said that these standards should be shared with all States for broader adoption.
Highlighted the crucial role of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and called for urgent steps to fill all vacant posts and strengthen institutional capacity. Cleanliness of the Yamuna is crucial not just for economic growth but also for public health.
The initiative is consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise, made ahead of Delhi Assembly elections, to clean the Yamuna river. Current efforts to clean the Yamuna have been in vain over the years. Mr Shah is committed to getting this done despite past failures of successive governments.
