NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have returned to Earth after a nine-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS). They are now undergoing a 45-day rehabilitation program to adapt to Earth’s gravity. The astronauts experienced various physiological changes during their time in space, including fluid shifts, muscle atrophy, and reduced bone density. They will undergo a structured reconditioning program that includes mobility, flexibility, muscle strengthening, and cardiovascular training. The program is tailored to each astronaut’s needs and will be completed in three phases. Past cases have shown that astronauts can regain and sometimes even improve upon their pre-flight physical condition after completing this program. Williams and Wilmore’s extended stay on the ISS was unplanned, as they were supposed to return after an eight-day mission. Their return was delayed due to technical issues with the spacecraft’s propulsion system. The astronauts were immediately sent for medical evaluations before starting their rehabilitation.
