China’s Huawei Technologies is gearing up to test its latest and most powerful artificial-intelligence processor, aiming to surpass U.S. chip giant Nvidia. According to the Wall Street Journal, Huawei has approached Chinese tech companies to assess the technical feasibility of the Ascend 910D chip. The Chinese company hopes its latest AI processors will be more powerful than Nvidia’s H100, with the first batch of samples expected to arrive by late May.
Reuters reported that Huawei plans to start mass shipments of its advanced 910C chip to Chinese customers as early as next month. Huawei and its Chinese counterparts have faced challenges in competing with Nvidia’s top-end chips, particularly in military technology. Washington has restricted China from accessing Nvidia’s advanced AI products, including the B200 chip, which was banned from sale in China in 2022 before launch.
