The Pakistan army is equally ready to fight conventional wars after achieving unprecedented success in its war against terror, according to Army Chief General Raheel Sharif. Speaking to troops and war veterans at Sulemanki Sector on Saturday, General Sharif, who is expected to retire later this month, said the military has always been prepared for any challenge.
"Taking inspiration from our war heroes and their spirit of sacrifice, the Pakistan Army has always measured up to any challenge," General Sharif said. "With an unprecedented level of successes in the war against terror, we have become the most battle-hardened army and are equally ready for conventional war," he added, as quoted by the Inter Services Public Relations.
On Monday, General Sharif attended the funeral of seven Pakistani soldiers who were killed during border skirmishes with the Indian Army. He warned India that Pakistan’s army will continue to respond effectively, leaving no stone unturned to defend the country. He appreciated the troops for their vigilance along the Line of Control and international border.
General Raheel is due to retire on November 29 after a three-year stint. Earlier this week, he visited Government College University (GCU) Lahore, his alma mater, and interacted with students and faculty members. He emphasized on the importance of focusing on 3Cs (Character, Courage, and Competence) and striving for honor and dignity through hard work and faith in Allah.
General Raheel expressed optimism about a brighter future for the country, stating that Pakistan is a great nation and its human resource is its real asset. He also referred to the Zarbe Azb military operations against militants in 2014, which laid a strong foundation for peace and progress in Pakistan.
