Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi Intensifies Security Measures Amid Escalating Tensions with Pakistan
In response to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Odisha government has intensified security across key defense installations and its extensive coastline, citing potential external threats. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that credible intelligence inputs had prompted heightened vigilance around the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur and the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. "We apprehend a potential threat of a Pakistan-originated attack, possibly from the Bay of Bengal side," he said. The Chief Minister also announced efforts to assist Odia students stranded in vulnerable regions, with a dedicated cell set up at the Resident Commissioner’s office in New Delhi and a help desk operational for assistance.
The Odisha Police conducted a comprehensive review of security arrangements around strategic defense establishments, including the ITR and the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) at Chandipur. Threat assessments, surveillance measures, and emergency preparedness were among the issues discussed during the review. Additionally, the Indian Coast Guard has stepped up coastal surveillance, with fishing vessels being thoroughly documented and background checks underway for all sea-bound personnel. Local fishing communities have been asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Despite the heightened security measures, the Chief Minister assured citizens that there was no cause for panic. "Even though the possibility of a prolonged conflict remains, India will undoubtedly prevail," he said.
