Northeast Region Under Severe Flood Shoals

As of June 2, 2025, the critical flood situation in Northeast India has intensified, claiming 36 lives and affecting over 5.5 lakh people in eight states, including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, and Sikkim.

In Assam, 11 people have died due to floods and 15 rivers have overflowed, leaving more than 5.35 lakh people affected. Chief Minister Himanta Biswabasharma assures the affected people of all possible support.

Sikkim, where a landslide hit a military camp, saw three fatalities. The state administration is urging tourists to be cautious as many roads and bridges have been damaged or disused. Over 1,678 tourists were evacuated from Lachung and Chungthang, and more than 100 others remain stranded.

In West Ind, more than 19,000 people have been affected by floods in Manipur, causing extensive damage to houses and roads. Thirteen additional deaths were reported in Arunachal Pradesh, raising the total to 10.

The Northeastern region continues to face major challenges with rivers overflowing, landslides, and dam breaches. Reliance on succulence has increased, as the flood circumstances continue to worsen.

COVID-19, climate change, and lesseral access to healthcare are exacerbating the situation, further entwined with issues related to support systems for the needy and alignment procedures. International mechanisms and citizens should prepare for further action.
