Pakistani Military Commander Claims Indian Casualties Double
A top Pakistani military commander, Lt. Gen. Malik Zafar Iqbal, claimed that Indian army casualties were double compared to Pakistan in ongoing clashes at the Line of Control. He stated that only 20 of their soldiers were killed while they lost more than 40 soldiers.
Iqbal, who was on a visit to the strategic Gilgit-Baltistan region, addressed a gathering of civil and military officials. He claimed that rising army casualties were making the cost of ceasefire violations unbearable for the adversary. He said, "If they violate the ceasefire during the day, we manage to settle the score before evening, but if it occurs during night, we respond in kind before dawn."
This claim came days after Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif claimed that Indian army suffered at least 40 casualties in recent border clashes. Sharif accused India of hiding its losses due to fear of public backlash.
India’s Counter-Attack
India’s counter-attack came a day after Pakistan’s navy claimed it had detected and stopped Indian submarines from entering the country’s territorial waters in the Arabian Sea. India quickly denied the Pakistani claim.
Pakistan and India often trade fire in Kashmir, which is divided between the two neighbors and claimed by both in its entirety.
