Congress Urgently Meets Senior Leadership Amid Operation Sindoor
The Congress has convened an urgent meeting of its senior leadership on Wednesday afternoon to discuss its strategy for Thursday’s all-party meeting following Operation Sindoor. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has convened an emergency informal meeting of senior leaders present in Delhi at 3 PM today at 24 Akbar Road.
The meeting is aimed at finetuning the party’s narrative and addressing the current security situation. Sources indicate that the meeting is crucial as the party faces challenges from stray comments from some of its own leaders.
In the immediate aftermath of the Pahalgam attack on April 22, the Congress offered unconditional support to the government while flagging intelligence and security lapses. The party did not call for any resignations.
Claiming the meeting is important, another source within the Congress said the party hopes its leaders do not repeat their mistakes. The party will communicate with its leaders through the CWC resolution and give them instructions to toe the party line.
Reactions supporting the government on Operation Sindoor trickled in from Congress leaders as the news of the airstrikes broke in the early hours of Wednesday. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the party had “categorically stood with the armed forces and the government since the day of the Pahalgam attack and that national interest was supreme for the party.”
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, said he was proud of the armed forces.
