The BJP Focuses on Plugging Gaps with Specific Villages – Haryana News

As the Congress continues to build its organizational strength in Haryana following its third consecutive Assembly win, the ruling party has shifted its focus to villages to improve its overall performance.

Sources within the BJP have analyzed the party’s performance in past elections, noting that in nearly 6,800 villages across Haryana, the party had not secured a lead in over 58% of them over the past decade. While it managed to secure a lead in fewer than 24% of the villages, it did so in at least 18% of them.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli stated, "A specialized plan has been drafted for villages where the BJP has not secured a lead. Organizational teams are being set up and people’s feedback on the BJP’s performance is being gathered. We will study all possible reasons for the loss, including candidate pooling, caste dynamics, lack of development, and local agitation."

The BJP’s efforts come at a time when the party is anticipating a 50% vote share in the 2029 Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. Other BJP leaders have reaffirmed the party’s target to improve its performance in rural areas.

In the lastAssembly election, the BJP secured over 48 seats with a 39.9% vote share, while the Congress won 37 with a 39.1% share. In the 2019 elections, the BJP remained short of a majority with 40 seats, winning 36.49% of the vote, while the Congress won 28.08%.

The Congress, too, has been making inroads despite its Assembly victory last year. The party’s vote share has narrowed from 12.6 percentage points to just 0.6 percentage points in a decade, and it has been advancing in the Lok Sabha with the same margin. The results show the party securing 5.1% of the vote in the 2021 rally, compared to 4.1% in 2019.

To strengthen its hold in the state, the Congress has launched a major restructuring plan. Party leaders have appointed 68 Local Body Committee food testers and 8 additional ones to work with party members in their districts.gie
