A Flooded Street in Bengaluru Continues to Be A Problem
A flooded street at Sai Layout near Hennuru in Bengaluru was a sight to behold on Sunday, as early monsoon showers continued to cause waterlogging. This is not the first instance of waterlogging in the area, prompting residents and authorities alike to express frustration and seek a permanent solution.
Residents like Neelufar Ahmed and Harish G. have been battling this recurring issue for years. Despite repeated promises from authorities, the problems persist, with residents blaming the lack of action from the BBMP, BDA, and BWSSB.
Ven and ragvell, two small vents near Sai Layout, are insufficient to manage the flooding caused by rainfall from nearby areas such as Kammanahalli, Lingarajapuram, Hennur, and R T Nagar. Neelufar highlighted a situation where losses have been sustained over the long term.
"The thing we are facing is that rain comes with the BBMP, BDA, and BWSSB, yet nothing is done until the cries for help turn into a movement," Neelufar stated.
BBMP Chief Civic Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao made a visit to inspect the affected areas on Sunday. He announced that necessary actions would be taken to find a permanent solution to the flooding issues in Sai Layout.
“We will hold a meeting with BDA officials to address these concerns promptly. Temporary jackwell systems with pumps will be installed in select areas by the BDA as an interim measure,” he declared.
Add an update that the Chief Commissioner mentions that Sai Layout, developed by the BDA, has been experiencing waterlogging issues, and coordination with the Railway Department is underway to widen the vent and expedite the work.
On his inspection tour, he also visited Nagawara junction and Manyata Tech Park. While tasks were progressing, he reported that residents went back to their homes to cool off in a cooler air.
