Facts: Tragedy in Pakistan Trains Collision killed 17, Injured 50

On Thursday, Pakistan witnessed significant loss of life as two passenger trains collided, resulting in 17 deaths and 50 injuries. The tragedy happened in Landhi area, just outside Karachi, following a mechanical mistake in signal control.

Details:

  • The Zakaria Express, a bogie of three, was completely wrecked in Gaddafi Town.
  • This occurred due to the wrong signal given to the Fareed Express, a train it was supposed to pass through.
  • Rescuers and medical teams are at the scene, shifting injured passengers to nearby hospitals. Several people are still trapped beneath the wreckage.
  • So far, 17 bodies have been brought to Jinnah Hospital, with Dr Seemi Jamali of the hospital stating this figure.
  • The injured are currently being treated at Jinnah Hospital and two other local facilities.
  • The last similar accident happened back in September, where six were killed and over 150 injured when a train at Karachi launched crashed into another stationary freight train near Multan, in Punjab province.
