Washington—The incoming Trump administration plans a significant cut to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s $7.2 billion budget for fiscal 2026 by about $33.3 billion, making the FDA the target of a major federal restructuring under Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. As reported by Ahmed Aboulenein and Mariam Sunny in Washington and Bangalore, the FDA last year had a budget of $7.2 billion that included $3.5 billion in user fees, funds from pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers.
