FDA Budget Request Might Vacuum an Agency Civil Service
Washington—The incoming Trump administration plans a significant cut to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s $7.2 billion budget for fiscal 2026 by about $33.3 billion, making the FDA the target of a major federal restructuring under Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. As reported by Ahmed Aboulenein and Mariam Sunny in Washington and Bangalore, the FDA last year had a budget of $7.2 billion that included $3.5 billion in user fees, funds from pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. With roughly $6.8 billion earmarked for the agency this year, the impact of these financial cuts is indicative of a broader redesign within HHS to align with President Donald Trump’s competitive government瘦身 strategy, a move that has already seen 2,300 reductions in the agency’s ranks.
