PGI Directs Sarangpur Campus for Detailed Project Report and Vision 2047
In a significant move, the Punjab Government Institute of Medical Research (PGI) has been directed to prepare a detailed project report for its upcoming Sarangpur campus. This directive was issued during the Institute Body (IB) meeting held on Friday night in New Delhi, chaired by Union Health Minister JP Nadda.
The meeting emphasized the creation of a "Vision 2047" document, which will guide PGI’s growth in medical education, research, and healthcare over the next two decades. The institute will develop strategies to improve academics, infrastructure, and community outreach.
Additionally, the minister directed the prompt preparation and submission of a detailed project report (DPR) for the Sarangpur project. This project includes a 100-bedded medical college, an advanced cancer institute, a trauma centre, and outpatient departments (OPDs) to increase PGI’s healthcare and training capacity.
The institute body approved 90 new positions, including 80 senior residents, four faculty members, and six demonstrators. To support the satellite centre in Ferozepur, 637 positions were approved (111 faculty and 526 non-faculty) to ensure operational readiness and decrease patient load at PGI.
A dedicated technical cadre was also approved, with a six-tier structure to streamline support services and improve institute functioning.
Union Minister JP Nadda commended PGI’s exemplary service during Operation Sindoor, highlighting the institute’s unwavering commitment to the nation. He praised the dedication and swift response of PGI in sending five ambulances stocked with medical supplies and 218 units of blood. He also lauded PGI for dispatching its multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nursing officers, and ambulance drivers, hailing from various parts of India, exemplifying unity and a strong spirit of national service.
