Lokbandhu Rajnarayan Combined Hospital in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, suffered a devastating fire on April 14 that required evacuation of nearly 200 patients. Following the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered a swift implementation of urgent safety measures recommended by an investigating panel. In its report, the committee recommended enhanced fire safety protocols for all hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, including regular mock drills, ventilator enhancements, and strict adherence to fire safety guidelines. The measures call for installing comprehensive fire-fighting systems, nasal and positive pressurization in staircases, and ensuring evacuation routes remain unobstructed. Staff must also receive specialized training and hospitals should operate under the guidance of cross-sectoral institutions, emphasizing the importance of adopting uniform safety standards across the healthcare sector.
