A Workshop to Equip Medical Professionals with AI Skills

Mohali: A workshop was organized by Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) to equip medical professionals and educators with the knowledge and skills to responsibly integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their clinical and academic practices. The event, aptly titled ‘MED AI Evolution – Chalkboards to Chatbots,’ was inaugurated by Dr Bhavneet Bharti, director principal of AIMS Mohali.

Dr Bhavneet Bharti emphasized the importance of a thoughtful and relevant adoption of AI within today’s medical landscape, urging medical teachers to embrace AI technologies early on to remain at the forefront of the rapidly evolving academic sphere.

The workshop featured a series of insightful scientific sessions led by experts in the field. Guralam Singh Brar provided practical guidance on leveraging generative AI tools effectively, emphasising smart techniques for achieving optimal results while ensuring reliability. Dr Avneesh Khare showcased readily available AI tools with immediate applications for clinicians and researchers, while Dr Vikas Wasson spoke about the potential of AI in enhancing academic work, including writing assistance, streamlining literature reviews, and efficiently managing citations.

The afternoon transitioned into hands-on workshops, bridging the gap between theory and practical application. Prof Dr Anil Kumar Verma and Shruti from Thapar Engineering College demonstrated dynamic AI-powered teaching aids, such as engaging presentations, virtual avatars, and immersive 3D visuals. Brar further showcased AI’s transformative potential in education by illustrating the creation of valuable tools like virtual patient simulations for enhanced training, interactive chatbots for instant information access, and automated podcast generation for learning resources.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 100 delegates from across northern India, including faculty members, researchers, and students. Attendees actively engaged with the experts, gaining practical insights into the responsible integration of AI in teaching methodologies, research endeavours, and healthcare innovation.
