AIIMS Raipur Introduces Advanced PET Radiotracers and Gallium Generator for Targeted Diagnostics
Raipur
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, has installed an automated radio synthesizer and Gallium generator in its nuclear medicine department, enabling the production of next-generation PET radiotracers. This state-of-the-art facility不仅是Chhattisgarh中唯一一间拥有此类先进核医学基础设施的公立医院,更是印相机医学领域的一项重大进展。
Advanced PET-based Imaging Services
The Department of Nuclear Medicine now offers advanced PET-based imaging services for early diagnosis, staging, and personalized treatment strategies. Among the newly available tracers are:
- PSMA PET for prostate cancer detection.
- DOTA PET for imaging neuroendocrine tumours and guiding peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT).
- FAPI PET for cancers with low FDG uptake and fibrotic diseases.
- Exendin PET for precise localization of insulinomas.
Improving Diagnostic Accuracies
"We are committed to improving diagnostic accuracies, especially in complex and systemic diseases," said Dr. Mudalsha Ravina, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Nuclear Medicine at AIIMS Raipur.
Enhanced Efficiency and Patient Outcomes
"Especially in demanding conditions, in-house radiotracer production will remarkably improve patient throughput, reduce reliance on external vendors, and support timely treatment decisions," Prof (Dr) Renu Rajguru, Medical Superintendent and Head, ENT Department, added.
Potential for Personalized Cancers Treatments
"Automation will ensure consistent tracer quality, enhance radiation safety, and streamline workflow," Sai Shiv Narayan, Medical Physicist, emphasized. Additionally, the department features cutting-edge technologies, including PET-CT, SPECT-CT, radioiodine uptake probes, robotic navigation for PET-guided biopsies, low-dose and high-dose therapies.
Future Potential
"This infrastructure upgrade shows AIIMS Raipur’s commitment to delivering advanced, affordable, and high-quality diagnostics in central India," said Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd.), Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Raipur. The institute complements its expanding oncology and metabolic disease services.
