Warner Bros. Discovery Planning to Split into Two Public Companies
Warner Bros. Discovery, the leading streaming and cable player, plans to undergo a significant restructuring. By the end of next year, the company will split into two public companies, Streaming & Studios and Global Networks.
Streaming & Studios:
- Contents: Features Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, and HBO Max, along with their libraries of film and television series.
- Films: Includes iconic brands such as Warner Bros., HBO, and HBO Max.
- Ongoing: Facilities such as Witherspoon Pictures will be folded into HBO Max.
Global Networks:
- Channels & Platforms: Includes CNN, TNT Sports in the U.S., Discovery, top free-to-air channels across Europe, and digital products like the Discovery+ streaming service and Bleacher Report.
- Distribution: Will focus on cable and terrestrial broadcasting followed by acquisition of streaming services.
Market impact is significant, with shares jumping more than 9% in trading. CEO David Zaslav will lead Streaming & Studios, while Gunnar Wiedenfels will manage Global Networks.
The strategic review is expected to stabilize the company’s operations and position it for future success in a rapidly changing media landscape. The restructuring is still subject to final board approval.
