New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Criticizes Judiciary’s Indifference in Sebastian ‘Cash at Judge’s House’ Controversy
New Delhi:
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar highlighted the need for greater accountability in democratic institutions, particularly focusing on the shocking "cash at judge’s house" scandal. The incident, which has shaken public trust, along with an actionable FIR, underscores the importance of transparency and the rule of law, according to Dhankhar.
Dhankhar emphasized that while the rule of law is a cornerstone of society, accountability is a critical element of democracy. He reiterated that if one stays out of the reach of investigation, it undermines the authority of the judiciary and democracy in general.
At the launch of "The Constitution We Adopted (with Artworks)," Dhankhar stated: "We’re confronted with a jarring reality. A Judge’s residence in Lutyen’s Delhi had burnt notes and cash. There is no FIR to date. We have in the country the rule of law, and criminal justice system. There can be no occasion whatsoever to delay even for a moment because that is ordainment of law."
Dhankhar further engaged with the controversy by referring to the case involving Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma, highlighting the public’s anticipation of uncovering the truth behind the allegations. He stressed the necessity for the criminal justice system to be enacted swiftly.
The Vice President highlighted the importance of protecting the judiciary and ensuring that judges can decide fearlessly without being compromised. He commended the Supreme Court for their swift action, particularly Justice Khanna’s efforts in making key documents public for greater transparency and accountability.
As he reflected, Dhankhar maintained that the judiciary, crucial to democratic principles, must be safeguarded from external interference. He concluded with a call for revisiting legacy issues and mechanisms to facilitate fairer judicial proceedings.
