Originally airing from 2000 to 2008, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi became a definitive show of Indian television. Produced by Ekta and Shobha Kapoor under the Balaji Telefilms banner, the soap drama broke viewership records and established the foundation for Hindi serials for almost a decade. Now, over 15 years later, a new version is reportedly underway, potentially with some familiar faces returning.
Smriti Irani, who joined the BJP in 2003 and has held critical government positions like Minister for Human Resource Development and Women and Child Development, is set to make her acting comeback after a long hiatus. Security measures have been put in place, and filming for her new project is reportedly beginning, confirming her return to the screen.
Amar Upadhyay, who portrayed Mihir in the original program, was also seen at the meeting with Kapoor. Industry insiders suggest that he could pick up his role in the limited-series format of the reboot. The new season is expected to be approximately 150 episodes but might potentially extend to a longer run, mirroring the original’s status as a 2000 episodes-long show.
Though details remain undisclosed, it’s said that shooting is already underway. A promotional campaign featuring multiple cast members from the original series is reportedly in the works. Former cast members like Mouni Roy and Karishma Tanna are also rumoured to be taking cameo roles.
