In a protest on May 29, 2025, members of Kannada Raksha Vedike stormed the stage of Kannada filmmaker Kamal Haasan’s movie “Thug Life,” which was set for release on June 5, 2025 in India. The anti-Kannada comments for which Kamal Haasan faced backlash, including being required to apologize to users of the language. The KFCC, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, threatened to deny the movie’s release in Karnataka if Haasan does not apologize within two days. Kamal Haasan is well known for his controversial anti-Kannada statements. The movie that will open at the Cannes Film Festival and the acting director has been banned in India.
