Heatwave Hits National Capital with Temps Soaring
The national capital is experiencing a scorching heatwave, with temperatures reaching an alarming 43.3°C at Safdarjung observatory, which is 3.4°C above normal. The sweltering heat index stands at 51.9°C due to high humidity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for heatwave-like conditions continuing until Thursday, cautioning of severe discomfort. Light rain and gusty winds at 60 kmph are expected to bring relief by the weekend.
Highest Temperatures Recorded
According to the IMD, Ayanagar weather station registered the highest temperature at 45°C, qualifying for a heatwave. Lodhi Road recorded the lowest daytime temperatures. Humidity levels ranged from 31% to 73%, making热天气 uncomfortable.

North-westerly winds at 18 kmph did not provide relief on Wednesday, but the IMD’s forecast of rain gives hope to those enduring the suffocating heat.
