AI Revolutionizes Healthcare in India: AI Incumbent with Ministry of Health to Foster Medical AI Innovations

Patna: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, has joined hands with the e-health section of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to develop AI-driven solutions. They recently acquired AI-enabled medical devices to enhance patient care. Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, head of the cardiothoracic surgery department at AIIMS-Patna, stated, “With the AI revolutionizing health globally, acquiring foundational knowledge in AI principles and applications is imperative.”

AI can accurately detect illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, and neurological conditions from medical images. AI also helps doctors identify patterns human doctors might miss, improving diagnostic accuracy, even for beginners interpreting ECGs.

Dr. Kumar’s focus now includes robotic surgery, enhancing treatment precision. Additionally, the state health department has initiated an intensive TB screening initiative to estimate the exact number of TB cases in the state. Dr. Satish Kumar of Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) suggests procuring AI-based equipment at all health centers to ensure early diagnosis and efficient healthcare delivery.

“This screening will reveal the number of TB-affected patients and suggest treatment protocols,” stated Dr. Kumar. “Providing early detection and treatment using AI will reduce patient rushes at hospitals.”
