In a recent development, Anubrata Mondal, a key figure in the Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s ruling administration in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, found himself in a precarious situation. The TMC has pitched a stern rebuke at Mondal after an audio clip surfaced, indicating that he used abusive language during a phone call with the Bolpur police station inspector-in-charge, Litan Halder.
Mamata Banerjee, who leads the TMC, harshly condemned Mondal’s “derogatory and abusive” language towards the police officer, issuing a directive for him to issue an unconditional apology within four hours. The TMC cautioned that failure to comply would result in disciplinary actions, including show cause proceedings.
In response to the criticism, Mondal issued a written apology, emphasizing his inability to have “humiliated” police officers, referencing Mamata Banerjee’s portfolios.
A senior TMC leader noted that Mondal, once a trusted aide of Mamata for over two decades, has been removed from his position amid the city’s internal strife. This move follows ongoing protests by the BJP, demanding Mondal’s arrest, and attempts by the TMC to remove dissenting voices.
