Title: Pakistan Suspends Nickelodeon’s Broadcasting License

Pakistan’s Media Regulator, PEMRA, Has Banned Indian-Produced Cartoons from Nickelodeon

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has suspended the broadcasting license of the U.S.-based Nickelodeon channel for showing cartoons dubbed in Hindi. This decision follows PEMRA’s earlier decision to ban the airing of Indian content across television and radio channels in Pakistan, which has been ongoing since October 19 due to ongoing bilateral tensions.

"PEMRA has decided to suspend the license of Nickelodeon for airing cartoons dubbed in Hindi," stated the authority in a statement. "This action comes after Nickelodeon violated an earlier October 19 decision by PEMRA that banned the showing of Indian-content on television and FM radio stations."

The decision was made with the intention of enforcing a complete ban on Indian content on local television channels and FM radio stations. All distribution networks have been informed about the suspension of Nickelodeon’s channels immediately. The ruling will apply to all networks, and Nickleodeon is now in the hands of ARY Communications, the channel’s licensing rights holder in Pakistan.

This action by PEMRA is seen as a strategic move in response to a similar stance by some Indian channels and the entertainment industry against Pakistani content and artists.

Note: This policy change is aimed at reducing India-related content in the Pakistani media landscape.
