Legendary Sri Lankan Musician Pandit Amaradeva Passes Away at 88 After Heart Attack
Legendary Sri Lankan singer and composer Pandit Amaradeva, a recipient of numerous international honours, including the Padma Shri, passed away recently after suffering a heart attack. He was 88 years old.
A true Sri Lankan classical music icon, Pandit Amaradeva drew inspiration from Indian ragas and Sri Lankan folk traditions. His contributions to the development of Sinhala music are unmatched, earning him numerous awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award and Padma Shri.
President Maithripala Sirisena expressed his condolences on Twitter, while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe praised him as "a symbol of Sri Lankan classical music."
