The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, launched a programme aimed at reducing accidents across India. The initiative focuses on 100 high-risk districts by analyzing data from 17 states, using evidence-based interventions. Launched in Delhi, the approach integrates the CoERS’s 5E model: engineering, enforcement, education, emergency care, and empathy. The MoRTH report highlights the 4,61,312 accidents reported in 2022, resulting in 1,68,491 fatalities and 4,43,366 injuries. Despite human error being responsible for many accidents, significant challenges are identified in local areas.
