Pakistan does not deport iconic Afghan girl who used fake ID

Pakistan is yet to deport the ‘Afghan girl’ from National Geographic, Sharbat Gula. Sharbat Gula was arrested in Peshawar in 2016 for using fake identity papers. She received a 15-day jail term plus a $1,100 fine but is set to complete her sentence by Wednesday.

The government officials say she will not be deported from Pakistan based on humanitarian grounds and in good faith toward Afghanistan.

The decision was taken because of her anonymous origin. Since June 10, Sharbat Gula was nicknamed "Mona Lisa of Afghan war" after appearing on the cover of National Geographic. She was arrested on November 1, 2016, charged with forgery of a PNGCNIC and bribery. A previous given date of February 24, 2017 was missed, so her whereabouts remain unclear. The FIA also stated it would identify punishable initiatives. الرياض.
